My logo is too small, what do I do?
The issue, most likely, is that you have a logo with a lot of excess padding. Please read the article below for some tips and tricks on how to best optimize your image files so your logo can look it's best in the navigation bar.
Logo Sizes Explained
- Navigation bar has a fixed height, therefore the vertical space is limited to exactly what you see on your account when you log in
- In order to have a comfortable/visually appealing space for padding, your logo will get scaled down to 34px in height
You don't have to worry about having an exact size for your logo!
It automatically gets scaled in the app based on 34px being the maximum height allowed.
Tips and Tricks to optimize your logo to fit the best into the navigation bar
- It is best to have a horizontally oriented logo (web friendly), to make the most use of the limited height in the navigation bar
- The more complex/busy your logo is, the worse it will look in the small area. Instead, use an icon/favicon version of your logo and enable Company Name text, or create a web friendly version of your logo
- Use a .PNG file for transparent backgrounds. Having a white/color box around your logo in the top navigation bar may look a bit jarring
- If you can only use a .JPG file, try to match up the background color to the color you chose for the navigation bar
- Cut out all excess padding from your logo image file
Excess Padding Explained
If your logo file looks like this:
Note all the extra padding shown by the orange arrows |
This is what it will look like in the app:
Note the size of the logo compared to the navigation bar as well as the placement. The extra padding is making the logo appear much smaller |
To fix this, you will need to crop all of the extra padding from your logo so it appears like this:
Note there is no padding around the logo, all of it has been cropped. This will ensure that the logo is taking up the maximum amount of space in the navigation bar |
Now when you add a logo with no padding, it will appear much larger in the area:
Why it is better to us .PNG with transparent backgrounds than .JPG
If you use a .JPG file, it will have a background, if you don't set any color to that background, it is default to white. The result will be a solid box around your logo and may not look as professional.
